Over the past five years, MUSD has been on a strong upward trajectory in student achievement and overall school performance.
“Improving our schools’ letter grades has been a system-wide effort and an incredibly empowering achievement for our schools, teachers, and students,” said Kristin Reidy, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.
“In 2019, MUSD had just three schools earning an ‘A’ and six earning a ‘B,’ while several received ‘C,’ ‘D,’ or even ‘F’ ratings. That wasn’t acceptable to us. We set a vision for improvement that matched the true potential of our schools, and we couldn’t be prouder of the results we’re seeing today.”
Mrs. Reidy stated that the district has been diligently working to address challenges at each school, implementing several initiatives to strengthen student achievement wherever they are, including:
- A coordinated, systemwide focus on literacy and early learning
- Expanded early childhood education opportunities
- Targeted interventions for high-need academic areas
- Enhanced social-emotional and behavioral supports for students
- These strategies, combined with the commitment of teachers, staff, and families, have strengthened student outcomes across all grade levels.
Accountability for Arizona K-12 Public Schools
The Arizona State A-F Letter Grades are the State Accountability model used to annually measure school performance. The Letter grades are based on the following factors:
- Student growth from year to year
- Proficiency in statewide assessments
- English language proficiency and growth
- Preparedness for high school among elementary students
- Preparedness for post-secondary settings among high school students
- High school graduation rates
“These results remind us that when we work together, our students thrive,” said Dr. Streeter.
“We’re excited to keep pushing forward - raising expectations, deepening learning, and helping every child reach their full potential.”
