MUSD Expands “Empowered Teaching” Program to Help Students Learn and Grow!

The United Way Cradle to Career’s Empowered Teaching program is gaining momentum across Marana Unified School District. This year, nine schools have signed up to bring this transformative work to life in their classrooms – communicating learning goals, sharing student performance feedback, and closing learning gaps.
United Way has many “Cradle to Career” initiatives that span from early childhood through workforce readiness. They work on milestones like kindergarten readiness, early grade reading, middle-grade math, high school graduation, postsecondary education, and economic mobility. Other programs support educators’ professional development, which help improve the student learning experience.
In the Empowered Teaching program, teachers learn how to:
- Clearly communicate learning goals, grading standards, and teaching methods in ways students understand and enjoy
- Regularly share student performance and progress in ways that are visible and meaningful
- Create opportunities for students to reflect on their learning and give feedback, helping teachers improve lessons and close learning gaps
The program will impact over 400 students in grades K–8 in literacy and math classes, where teachers will work together to improve lessons and help students succeed.
